Council Libraries National Simultaneous Story time

Cassowary Coast Regional Council Libraries recently hosted children across the region for National Simultaneous Story Time Day.

GCC Family Tree in Innisfail

The annual event is a day to celebrate literacy and build foundations in the younger generation for a lifelong love of learning and reading.

This year’s book “Family Tree” by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh is a heartfelt celebration of family, community and the seasons of life.

Two hundred children across the region listened as Library team members and guests brought the story to life through a range of activities.

We introduced children to the concept of a Family Tree, created a mural and planted native seeds with Council’s Vegetation Management Team who will propagate these trees to plant in the Cassowary Coast. The children even managed to discover their very own great-grandparents through  Ancestry.com (Library Edition).

Council Libraries would like to give a special thanks to Brett Ambrum from Mamu Health, the Council Vegetation Management Team and volunteers who helped make this special and collaborative community event a success.
