Increasing accessibility and functionality, residents will now have access to these facilities 7-days a week (Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm and Saturday / Sunday 9am – 4pm), thanks to new, innovative systems.

Waste Management and Innovation Portfolio Holder, Councillor Teresa Millwood, said in order to move to an automated system, both Bells Creek and Cardwell facilities will receive a number of upgrades that use technology to improve the performance of the facilities.

“The technology installed creates a facility that is completely autonomous and self-sufficient and doesn’t rely on staff to operate effectively.

“Patrons will receive automated access through a unique pin and will be able to dispose of waste accordingly.

“There will be a reporting system installed which records and captures data on the waste disposal occurring at the facilities.

“A new security system and intercom will also be installed, which will connect patrons to Waste Transfer Officers working in other locations in our region, who will be able to assist with any questions or issues,” said Councillor Millwood.

“By updating these facilities to automated service, Council hopes residents can more readily use these facilities at a time that suits them best,” said Councillor Millwood.

“There will also be no changes to site usage, domestic allowances or fees and charges for the remainder of the financial year.”

Residents within the Bells Creek or Cardwell Waste Transfer Station Catchment Areas will begin to receive information in the mail about the changes this week. The information will include each individual property’s unique pin details along with instructions on how to use this pin.

The codes are unique to each individual property and will be allocated to home owners only. If your property is rented to tenants, please provide details to them as soon as possible.
