Coaches give all to court sport
DALE Jackley and Nicole Bell have been named the 2024/2025 male and female representative coaches of the year by Cairns Basketball, recognising their contribution to representative basketball and the wider Cairns community.

Cairns Basketball representative Colin Donovan said the awards reflected dedication that went well beyond scheduled training sessions and matches.
“Both Dale and Nicole have volunteered countless hours to these roles, dedicating time well beyond scheduled trainings and matches to plan, prepare and support their teams,” Mr Donovan said.
“Their leadership and commitment reflect the strong connection between local sport, local business and community involvement that underpins Cairns Basketball.”
Dale Jackley, owner of Jackley’s Bakehouse, has been a long-standing figure in the representative program and was recognised for his consistent approach and behind-the-scenes preparation. His coaching style and work ethic have helped build team culture, discipline and confidence among athletes.
“This award is really about the players and the people around them,” Mr Jackley said.
“I’m proud to coach in a community that backs its kids and values what sport can do for young people.”
Nicole Bell, owner of Earlville Chiropractic, was also recognised for her impact as a volunteer coach.
Cairns Basketball said Ms Bell ---invested significant time outside of court hours to support athlete wellbeing, performance and long-term development, combining technical skill with encouragement.
“Basketball is about more than wins and losses,” Ms Bell said.
“It’s about helping young athletes believe in themselves and enjoy the journey,” she said.
