The annual appeal raises funds to provide Christmas hampers containing essential groceries for concession card holders with children across the Douglas Shire, helping ease financial pressure during what can be one of the most challenging times of the year.

Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said community support would be particularly important this year.

“The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal is all about helping others less fortunate and every year our community shows incredible generosity,” she said.

“Last year, we were incredibly grateful to receive a significant contribution from Bendigo Bank, which helped make the appeal a success. This year, we’re relying even more on the generosity of our community to dig deep and support local families who may be struggling during the festive season.

“Every dollar donated stays right here in the Douglas Shire and helps provide Christmas hampers filled with essential groceries for local families in need.”

Families receiving support through the appeal are referred by trusted local community service providers, ensuring assistance reaches those most in need.

In 2025, the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal supported 140 local children, highlighting the ongoing need for community assistance across the shire.

“If everyone can give a little, together we can achieve a lot,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“Whether it’s a small donation or a larger contribution, every gift makes a real difference and helps make Christmas a little brighter for local families.”

Donations are being accepted from now until 18 December 2026, with funds going directly towards the purchase of Christmas hampers for eligible families.
