Children thrive at ‘come and try’ day at Muddies
THE Muddies have welcomed a new generation of potential cricketers through the gates, with more than 25 children taking part in a successful ‘come and try’ day.

The event gave local youngsters the chance to get out on the field, have a go at cricket and learn some of the fundamentals of the game, with plenty of smiles, laughs and enthusiasm throughout the day.
For many of the children, it was an opportunity to experience cricket in a relaxed and welcoming environment, with the focus firmly on getting involved and, most importantly, having fun.
After plenty of time on the field, the young participants were rewarded with a well-earned sausage sizzle and juice boxes, giving families the chance to relax and enjoy the community atmosphere at the club. The Muddies also praised the parents and families who came along to support the event, with their involvement helping create a positive environment for the young players.
Club president Steve Doble said the day was a perfect reflection of what the club is all about.
“The Muddies are all about cricket, mateship, family and having a good time, and today was a perfect example of that,” Doble said.
The strong turn-out has provided plenty of encouragement for the club as it looks to continue growing its junior numbers and introducing more children to the sport.
With more than 25 youngsters already taking their first steps onto the field, the Muddies will be hoping to see plenty of those young faces return to the club in the future.
Beyond developing cricket skills, events such as the come and try day provide an opportunity for children and families to become part of the wider club community and build connections that extend beyond the playing field.
For the Muddies, the message following the successful day is simple: the future is looking bright.
With new players discovering the game, families getting involved and plenty of enthusiasm around the club, the Muddies are continuing to build momentum.
