Cheaper power promised
REGIONAL Queensland households and small businesses will see electricity bills reduced from 1 July, with the Queensland Competition Authority confirming some of the largest price falls in more than a decade.

The Queensland Competition Authority’s final determination found electricity costs will fall by up to 6.9% for regional households and 8.1% for small businesses.
The reductions follow a direction from Treasurer and Minister for Energy David Janetzki for government-owned Ergon Energy to pass on the savings in full to regional households and small businesses.
Member for Mulgrave Terry James welcomed the reductions, saying households and businesses in Far North Queensland would benefit.
“Great to see Far North Queensland householders and small businesses finally getting some cost of living relief through these reduced prices. In particular small businesses continue to tell me how hard high electricity costs are on their bottom line. This is the best news I have heard this year,” Mr James said.
The new electricity prices for regional Queensland will take effect from 1 July.
