Chart-toppers on tour
FRESH from scoring their second consecutive Australian number one album, indie rock outfit The Jungle Giants are heading to Cairns, promising their biggest and most polished live show yet.
The Brisbane four-piece will perform at Brothers Leagues Club in Manunda on Friday 31 July as part of their ‘Experiencing Feelings of Joy Tour’, with support from The Tullamarines and Tear Drive.
Speaking to Cairns Local News ahead of the tour, bass player Andrew Dooris said the success of the band’s latest album was rewarding after years of work and significant personal change.
“It’s always great to release new music, and yeah, it was great to be on top of the charts for the new record, and that’s the second in a row to be the number one Aussie artist in the country,” he said.
“So we worked really hard on the record ... to have such an intensely personal record for Sam reach the number one position is really ... very special.”
Mr Dooris said recording the album posed new challenges as the band balanced an expanding international touring schedule with major life changes.
“The record was made over these small little two-week blocks,” he said.
“We were kind of starved for large chunks of time ... and in the end, the deepest rabbit hole we had to go down was the one about Sam’s personal triumphs and trials and tribulations.”
The tour will take the band beyond Australia’s capital cities, something Mr Dooris said remained an important part of being musicians.
“It means heaps to be meeting all the people supporting our career,” he said.
“It’s really nice to meet people from everywhere, to break bread and to have a little bit of a boogie.”
Mr Dooris said the band always enjoyed returning to Far North Queensland.
“We’ve been doing it for 15 years... we love coming up,” he said.
“I love snorkelling. I’m a big snorkelling guy. I love the Reef.”
He also encouraged concertgoers to arrive early to catch support acts The Tullamarines and Tear Drive.
