Caravonica family fun day set for Saturday
LOCAL families are invited to enjoy an afternoon of learning, fun and community connection at the Caravonica Family Fun Day this Saturday 1 November.

Running from 2pm to 6pm at Caravonica Dog Park in Impey Reserve, the free event brings together local services, emergency crews and residents to help the community prepare for the wet season.
Attendees can participate in hands-on demonstrations, such as building a proper sandbag wall and safely servicing a generator. Children can join Birdie for yoga and relaxation sessions, designed to help them stay calm during stressful times.
The event will also feature face painting, a jumping castle, live entertainment, and a variety of food options, including a pizza truck, a coffee and doughnut van and an ice cream van.
Visitors can meet SES, Fire, and Ambulance crews, as well as Cairns Regional Council representatives and chat with local organisations in the Community Connections Tent about strengthening community resilience.
The event is presented as part of the Barron Connected Communities initiative, supported by Centacare FNQ and local partners.
Centacare FNQ Disaster Recovery supports residents affected by Tropical Cyclone Jasper and the floods in January and February 2025. The organisation assists with grants, insurance claims, and rebuilding support, as well as emotional support and community preparedness planning through its Disaster Recovery and Resilience Hub.
The State Emergency Service (SES) Far Northern, Cairns, will also host the 2025 SES State Disaster Rescue Challenge — the first time the event has been held since 2015.
The Challenge will see teams from each region compete across eight events over two days, testing their emergency response knowledge and skills in a range of simulated disaster scenarios throughout the Far Northern Region.
The winning team will represent Queensland at the National Disaster Rescue Challenge in the second half of 2026.
