Calling the moon
GLOBAL First Nations band EarthKin are set to unveil their new single ‘The Moon Call’ when they take to the stage supporting international group The Cloud Makers at Tanks Arts Centre on Friday 31 October 2025.

Founder Luke Briscoe says The Moon Call was written in response to recent global and local struggles, from the failed Voice referendum in Australia to ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
“EarthKin is more than music, it’s about reimagining language, culture and cosmic storytelling for today’s audiences while staying true to our roots,” he said.
“The Moon Call is both protest and prayer, a call for peace and love conveyed through rhythm, voice and story.”
Set for release on 31 October, the track provides a counterpoint to Halloween’s commercialised festivities. Instead, it aligns with ancestral traditions such as Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), where music, memory and spirituality merge to honour ancestors and celebrate renewal.
“EarthKin’s upcoming performance coincides with Wungariji, the Kuku Yalanji season – the hot, dry time of year when the land breathes heat and anticipation,” Mr Briscoe said.
Blending Kuku Yalanji and Cook Islands languages with contemporary beats, EarthKin describe their style as ancestral futurism, a cosmic sound that bridges ancient stories and modern global audiences.
The seven-member collective unites a vibrant ensemble of musicians and vocalists, each bringing their own heritage and musical tradition to the stage.
Alongside Luke are his sister Naurita Briscoe, an award-winning Kuku Yalanji singer-songwriter, Terina Hakaoro, a Polynesian vocalist whose range spans R&B, funk, soul, jazz, bossa nova and even country, Mario Conde Cuarita, a Bolivian saxophonist blending Western and Indigenous sounds, Dimple Bani Jr. (Torres Strait Islander, drums), Stephen Maxwell (Jamaican, keys) and Cassandra Bayer (Filipino, violin).
Mr Briscoe, who also hosts and produces the SBS NITV podcast ‘Indigenous Ghost Stories’, brings that same reverence for ancestral presence and spiritual storytelling to EarthKin’s performances, weaving together rhythm, voice and connection to Country.
Before their Tanks show, EarthKin will host a media preview in Cairns, offering local media the chance to meet the band, hear The Moon Call performed live and learn more about their debut EP currently in production.
