Jobfind launches new employment service for youth
Jobfind is open from 4 July 2022 at 14 Aplin Street, Cairns City
Since 1998, Jobfind’s 5-star disability employment service in Cairns has been helping people with a disability to find meaningful work. Now, the Australian Government employment services provider is expanding to be the only local provider of a specialised program for young people: Workforce Australia – Transition to Work.
Young people aged 15-24 can get practical support to achieve their employment goals with a one-on-one service from a Youth Coach.
Importantly, Jobfind can support hopeful young job seekers to access courses, work trials, apprenticeships and hiring employers.
Karena Newland, Jobfind’s CEO, said: “Disadvantaged young people deserve every opportunity to feel confident about working so they can start to build lifelong careers.”
The program is not just for youth claiming income support. “We welcome direct registrations from people who meet the eligibility criteria,” said Newland.
Employers benefit too, with Jobfind able to facilitate access to government wage subsidies to help with the cost of taking on a new employee.
“The financial and hiring support we can offer an employer is at no cost to them. It’s the government’s investment in helping them build their workforce,” said Newland.
Jobfind’s disability employment service in Cairns is already well utilised by employers needing to fill vacancies.
“Employers understand that youth and people with a disability represent tremendous productivity potential,” said Newland.
By the end of July, Jobfind will base all its services from the new Aplin Street office, with outreach offered to job seekers in Atherton, Cardwell, Innisfail, Mareeba, Smithfield and Yarrabah.
Jobfind is welcoming enquiries now from local job seekers and employers. Visit them at 14 Aplin Street, Cairns City, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, or call 1800 931976 for more information.
