Announcing her appointment, Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said Ms Martin comes highly recommended and will help shape the organisation’s culture, community engagement and infrastructure and service delivery.

“I am delighted that our Council has been able to secure someone of the calibre of Ms Martin,” Cr Manning said.

“She is a highly motivated and respected leader with an extensive track record with the country’s largest local government council.

“Importantly, Ms Martin has demonstrated the ability to effectively manage large, complex teams and build strong relationships across government, industry, business and community.”

Ms Martin brings with her extensive local government experience, including 29 years with Brisbane City Council, 16 of which were in senior management positions, most recently as the organisation’s Executive Manager of Field Services  – tasked with the construction and maintenance of civil and green assets across the city with an annual budget of $800 million and over 1800 employees.

She also held previous leadership roles in strategic planning and human resource management, business development and innovation, and notably led the formation of a new branch within Brisbane City Council with more than 500 employees and a budget of over $80 million to achieve integrated service delivery with a commercial focus.

“Council unanimously endorsed Ms Martin’s appointment today and when she starts with us at the end of the month, along with getting to know the region and the organisation, I expect there will be an immediate focus on Council’s 2021-22 Budget,” Cr Manning said.

Cr Manning also took the opportunity to acknowledge and thank Acting CEO Christine Posgate for her work since taking on the role late last year.

Ms Martin has been appointed for a term of four years and will commence as Council’s CEO on 29 March.

Acting CEO arrangements will remain in place until then.
