Brothers are team to beat
CAIRNS Brothers are the team to beat in the FNQ rugby league season after round five.

Brothers dominated Yarrabah 64-0 in the A-grade competition.
There were some big scorelines across the A-grade, reserves and women’s competitions, as well as some nail-biting upsets also being in the mix.
Women
The women’s round began with the Innisfail Leprechauns taking on Southern Suburbs in a blockbuster game.
The game delivered exactly what was expected, with Southern Suburbs taking the 18-14 win.
The Cairns Kangaroos played the undefeated Atherton Roosters in another nail-biting game where Kangaroos handed the Roosters their first loss of the season, 20-14.
The round closed out with Ivanhoes heavily defeating Mossman 62-8.
Reserves
The reserves saw Mossman Sharks claim their first win of the season with a 36-26 victory over Ivanhoes.
Sharks coach Lyle Murgha said he was “thrilled” with the victory.
“It’s good to get a win on the board, it will lift the players up and give us something to work with,” he said.
The Innisfail Leprechauns defeated Mareeba comfortably 30-6 boosting them up to second on the ladder.
The Cairns Kangaroos made the road trip up to Atherton where they beat the Roosters comfortably 38-16, keeping the Kangaroos’ season on track.
The ladder-leading Tully Tigers hosted Southern Suburbs where the Tigers came out with a hard fought 12-6 win maintaining first place on the ladder.
The round closed out with the defending premiers Cairns Brothers playing the Yarrabah Seahawks, with Brothers taking a 24-14 win keeping their premiership defence right on track.
A-grade
The A-grade matches were identical to the reserves, but the results were very different. Ivanhoes continue their hot start with a 40-20 victory over the struggling Mossman Sharks.
The Innisfail and Mareeba game and the Roosters verse Kangaroos game both saw nail-biting finishes with Innisfail claiming victory 20-14, while the Roosters escaped with an 18-16 win keeping them undefeated in 2026.
Southern Suburbs showed tremendous fight against Tully, winning on the road 16-10 putting them in fifth place, right outside of finals.
The round closed with Cairns Brothers dominating Yarrabah 64-0.
