Bridge out of action
THE Paronella Park swing bridge remains closed to the public due to safety concerns.
A Cassowary Coast Regional Council spokeswoman said the bridge was currently closed to the public while safety assessments were being carried out.
“As a precautionary measure, access has been temporarily restricted while (the) council awaits the findings of this engineering report,” she said.
“Council officers are working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to consider and implement short term measures to manage pedestrian safety while the swing bridge remains closed. Users are reminded to be mindful of their safety and traffic risks if they utilise the road bridge.
“(The) council will carefully consider the options available to bring the bridge up to modern safety standards, balancing safety, heritage and community interest.
“We understand this temporary closure may be disappointing and sincerely thank the community for its patience and understanding during this time.
“We hope you take the time to still enjoy what Paronella Park and Mena Creek have to offer.
“(The) council will continue to keep you informed as more information becomes available.”
