Big wins for many groups
MORE than $1 million in Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) grants have been dished out in the Far North.

Forty-four groups in the Cairns region will receive a total of $1,157,907 in funding as part of round 122 of the GCBF.
The latest round delivers a welcome boost to the Cairns region, with funding helping to upgrade local facilities, support grassroots sport and provide life-saving services.
Recipients across the electorates of Cairns, Cook, Barron River and Mulgrave include:
The Roman Catholic Trust Corporation for The Diocese of Cairns: $9111 for the installation of shade sails by Holy Cross Catholic Primary School
Rotary Cairns Northern Beaches Inc: $35,000 to conduct First Aid courses, training, the purchase of promotional and IT equipment
Boopa Werem Kindergarten and Preschool Association Incorporated: $35,000 towards infrastructure and a roof replacement.
Cairns Community Kindergarten Incorporated: $35,000 for upgrades to softfall, drainage and fencing.
Leichhardt Football Club Cairns Inc: $34,000 towards the installation of a solar system.
Pace Running and Multisport Inc: $30,000 to purchase a new vehicle.
Holy Cross principal Sarah Hamilton said the money would pay for a new waterproof shade sail to protect their fruit and vegetable crops from the extreme FNQ weather.
Member for Cook David Kempton said many of the grants in his electorate were going towards events and facilities that celebrated the great outdoor lifestyle, with nine groups awarded more than $250,000 in funding.
