The event brought together teams from across the region, including Council Mackay, and served as the final tournament before the under-18 state championships.

For the under-16 age group, it was the season’s first tournament.

Cairns Basketball general manager Luca Vergari said the competition highlighted strong team performances.

“It’s more of a team thing with these guys. In the junior space, there were a couple of really close games,” he said.

Division two teams had notable success, with the under-18 boys taking gold and the girls finishing with a silver medal.

In division one, the boys claimed bronze, while the girls finished fourth.

Mr Vergari said the under-18 state titles would take place next year from 7 to 11 January, giving the teams another opportunity to compete at a higher level.

Looking ahead to 2026, Cairns Basketball will open registrations for its senior competition.

Mr Vergari encouraged interested players to visit the association’s website for details.
