Young Archie Ferguson, just 16-years- old, scored 64, with the remaining runs shared evenly among the team.

Barron River chased the total in 30 overs, led by Adam Trewin, who made 84 not out. David Coulthard contributed 44, forming the central batting partnership for the side.

In the North Queensland girls’ series in Brisbane, two local players – Meg McCartney and Abby Toshack – were selected. The series ended in a draw after their flights were delayed, limiting each team to two games.

Other matches in the round were low scoring, with totals around 110 and North’s first-grade game was washed out due to storms at Mareeba.

Looking ahead, Barron will face Norths in what is expected to be a key fixture as they aim to maintain their top-of-the-ladder position and secure a top-three finish.

The Cairns cricket season continues until 20 December, followed by a short break, then resumes in early January and runs through to March, with finals scheduled at the end of the season.
