The spacious, glass-framed area, lush with plants and light, provided a perfect balance to the canvases and delicate sculptures on show.

The exhibition, ‘Emergent Layers’, was officially opened on 7 August and will be displayed until 27 September.

Speaking on opening night, Libby said the venue was a wonderful space, and the hotel’s work with the Cairns Art Society in supporting and providing access to local artists was very welcome.

‘Emergent Layers’ is a stylish and detailed capture of the different moods and layers of the tropical landscape.

Libby, whose backyard sits beside the Kuranda Range and the Macalister National Park, describes the wild, dense, rainforest as both soothing and brutal, a challenge and a refuge.

“It is always changing. It never stops moving, growing and evolving.”

You can see Libby Hunter’s exhibition at Crystalbrook Bailey, 163 Abbott Street, Cairns, until 27 September.
