Back to school with dignity

CENTACARE FNQ will celebrate 10 years of helping Far North Queensland families get children back to school with dignity and confidence, marking the grand opening of its 2026 School Savvy pop-up season on Monday 12 January.

Over the past decade, School Savvy has supported 14,429 students and 6702 families, delivered 756 free haircuts and hosted 25 community pop-up shops across the region.

Themed, ‘Our Village, Their Future’, the 2026 season of the School Savvy campaign is the culmination of a collective and heartfelt effort by donors, volunteers, hairdressers, community partners and families.

The Cairns Showgrounds daily pop-up shop (with extended hours on Thursday 15 and 22 Jan) and bonus Saturday morning 17 Jan) is the main venue.

Additional locations include:

  • Wednesday 14 January 14 – Edmonton (Hambledon House Community Centre), 11am-2pm

  • Friday 16 January – Innisfail (Innisfail Shire Hall), 11am-2pm

  • Monday 19 January – Tully (Centacare office), 11am-2pm

  • Wednesday 21 January – Trinity Park (Marlin Coast Neighbourhood Centre), 11am-2pm

  • Thursday 22 January – Mossman (Mossman Shire Hall), 11am-2pm

  • Friday 23 January – Manoora (Manoora Neighbourhood Centre), 10am-2pm.
