Artist blooms at beach
MAYHEM at Machans café at Machans Beach has hosted the opening of ‘Blossom’, a new exhibition by local artist Marita Darcy.

About 50 people attended the relaxed event, which showcases Ms Darcy’s latest works and will run until Friday 21 December.
For Ms Darcy, Blossom is more than an exhibition title.
“Through realism and abstraction, I aim to create what I call the ‘universal person’, the person in front of me can be just that, or by the way of their gait, or the glint in their eyes, the viewer may find a more personal or familiar connection, perhaps even themselves reflected. Come and see this collection of works created and captured for the residents of Machans Beach,” she said.
The exhibition opened with the unveiling of a larger-than-life portrait of resident Mary Saveka on the café’s external wall. Ms Saveka has lived at Machans Beach for 45 years, previously worked at Machans Beach State School and played a key role with the local recovery hub after the 2023 Jasper flood event.
Mayhem at Machans café is at Machans Beach and is open every morning, seven days a week until 2pm.
The venue is hosted by Ellen, Jen and staff and will feature Darcy’s exhibition throughout its run.”
Residents and visitors are invited to view the collection, enjoy the café’s offerings, and engage with the local art community.
