Art workshops staged for all ages
A SERIES of art workshops and children’s courses being offered at Cairns Art Gallery across February and March, alongside several major exhibitions currently on display.

Adult workshops begin with 'Guided by Self-Love', a movement journey with LaToya Burton on Sunday 15 February from 10.30am-12pm. The session incorporates movement, dance and tarot card readings. Cost is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
A two-day abstract acrylics workshop with Maharlina Gorospe-Lockie runs on Saturday 21 February from 10.30am-2.30pm and Sunday 22 February from 10.30am-1pm. Participants will work on a blank canvas using acrylic paints while exploring colour, line, rhythm and balance. Cost is $175 for members and $195 for non-members.
Alternative print making with Amanda Rowen takes place on Saturday 28 February from 10.30am–1pm. The workshop uses everyday textured objects alongside traditional block printing techniques to create printed fabric pieces. Cost is $30 for members and $35 for non-members.
A life drawing class with Sue Schreiber is scheduled for Saturday 7 March from 10am–1pm. The session includes a professional life model and focuses on proportion, gesture, line and shading. The class is strictly 18+. Cost is $65 for members and $75 for non-members. One place remains in Sue’s four-week introductory course beginning Wednesday 11 March, open to Members at $160.
For children, an eight-week comics and manga course with Lachlan of JUDD Comics for ages 13+ runs on Thursdays from 3.30–5pm starting 5 February. A six-week mixed media course for ages 5–9 runs Tuesdays from 3.30–5pm starting 17 February. A six-week drawing and portraiture course with Jamie-Lee Simpson for ages 9–14 runs on Wednesdays from 3.30–5pm starting 18 February.
There are several art exhibitions on display at the gallery running through to mid-March.
