Art deco fashion , murder mystery and more
FROM fashion parades and murder mysteries to guided tours of the architectural beauty of Innisfail, be prepared for the annual tropical Art Deco Festival.
Organised by the Innisfail and District Historical Society with the support of a Cassowary Coast Regional Council Community Grant, the five days of festival fun marks the six annual event on from 16-20 September.
The Society will host two Shire Hall Tours – three Art Deco History Guided Town Walks, and the Historical Cemetery Walk.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Innisfail’s Art Deco history alive for locals and visitors,” Society president, Trish Ernst said.
“The tours are an added attraction for our town which showcases our distinctive Art Deco architecture combined with fascinating stories of the town’s people and events of the past,” she said.
As a former travel consultant, Ms Ernst believes the tours are great value, ranging from free entry for the Shire Hall Tours on Wednesday and Friday at 12.30pm, $5 for the Wednesday evening cemetery walk at 6pm and $10 for the one-hour town walk tour at 10am on Thursday from the Shire Hall foyer and on Sunday at 11am and 1pm during the Vintage Market.
The Murder Mystery Dinner, at the brothers’ Leagues Club encourages guests to dress as 1920s high society passengers, pirates and members of the ship’s crew as they set sail on a ‘Caribbean Cruise’.
The fashion parade at the Con features outfits from the 1890s, through to the Art Deco era, swinging 60s and 70s to modern day.
A fabulous selection of wedding dresses will also be featured on the day with a delicious afternoon tea served at interval.
Guests can dress in their favourite fashion era for the chance to win a best-dressed fashion prize.
Festival event tickets for the Murder Mystery Dinner on Friday 18 September and Fashion Through the Ages on Saturday 19 September are now on sale through Trybooking or through the Tropical Art Deco Facebook page or Innisfail History website.
