Answer the Daintree’s call
A NEW destination campaign has been launched to drive visitation, overnight stays and local support for the Daintree during May and June.

The multi-channel destination campaign encouraging locals and visitors alike to experience the Daintree has officially launched across Far North Queensland, with Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD) rolling out a targeted campaign titled ‘The Daintree Is Calling. Answer.’
Initially timed to lead up to Port Douglas Carnivale, the campaign is aimed to encourage locals from across the Far North to make the most of the free ferry initiative through the Douglas Card and visit, experience and stay in the Daintree during May and June, while also casting a wider net to visitors from around Australia and internationally.
The campaign has been designed to support recovery and stimulate visitation following a challenging start to the year for many operators across the Daintree region. The activity includes large format digital billboards across Cairns, digital advertising in the Cairns Airport domestic arrivals hall, large format placement in Cairns Central Shopping Centre, radio advertising and breakfast interviews on commercial radio, plus a targeted social media campaign.
From rainforest walks and river cruises to beachside escapes, tropical fruit farms, cultural experiences, cafés, rainforest lodges and reef adventures departing Cape Tribulation, the campaign showcases the incredible breadth of experiences available across the Daintree and encourages visitors to slow down and experience more.
Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD) executive officer Emma Tunnock said the campaign was about reminding people that one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations was right on our doorstep.
“We really want to encourage people to come and experience everything the Daintree has to offer while supporting local operators and communities during an important recovery period,” she said.
“There is simply too much to see and do in a single day and this campaign is designed to encourage overnight stays and greater dispersal throughout the region.”
TPDD says Douglas Shire Council was quick to to reactivate the Douglas Card initiative for May and June, allowing Far North Queensland locals to access free Daintree ferry travel during the campaign period.
“This initiative provides a fantastic incentive for locals to get out and explore the Daintree and we sincerely thank Douglas Shire Council for supporting the initiative during this important recovery period,” Ms Tunnock said. TPDD also welcomed the recent launch of the Daintreepedia, a comprehensive guide to everything Daintree, including what to do.
