An hour to take a vow
CAIRNS Festival will present an unconventional wedding at Tanks Arts Centre on Thursday 3 September, with audiences given the power to make the big decisions during an interactive 60-minute ceremony.

One Hour Wedding puts chaotic wedding planners Rach & Roz in charge of pulling off a full wedding in just one hour, with the audience enlisted to help determine how the ceremony unfolds.
The couple have already agreed to marry, but almost everything else will be decided by the crowd, including the dress, flowers, first dance, song, cake and wedding theme.
“No rehearsal. No rules. Just ‘I do’.”
Adding to the stakes, Roz is a bona fide legalised wedding celebrant, meaning the performance could result in a real marriage. Couples are also invited to apply to tie the knot on stage as part of the show.
Organisers describe the interactive production as “part wedding, part theatre”, placing the audience at the centre of proceedings as the clock counts down on Rach & Roz’s attempt to complete the ceremony.
The opening night will be held at Tanks Arts Centre on Thursday 3 September 2026. Guests are invited to Fever Lounge in Tank 4 from 5pm, ahead of One Hour Wedding at 6pm. The opening-night invitation lists the event time as 5pm to 8.30pm.
The invitation promotes the event as “the wedding you never knew you needed”, with RSVPs due by Friday 28 August 2026.
Later performances will be held on Saturday 5 September, with patrons attending the 6pm and 8.30pm shows warned not to leave vehicles parked overnight on Collins Avenue because of road closures for Carnival on Collins on Sunday 6 September.
