Amateurs countdown
FINAL preparations are underway for the 67th Cairns Amateurs race day tomorrow.
The event has been scaled down and incorporated into a ‘super carnival’.
Amateurs Day includes a president’s lunch, a 1500 club and the new ‘hard rated’ zone.
Fashions on the field include:
‘Fashion Forward’ for under-30s
Best dressed lady (over-30s)
Best millinery
Best dressed couple.
There are eight local races, with gates opening at 10.30am. General admission is $44 online or $50 at the gate.
A complimentary bus service operates to and from Ladbrokes Cannon Park on race day to The Reef Hotel Casino in the heart of the city.
The rest of the eight-day carnival includes:
Wednesday 26 August – Cairns Cup barrier draw, 5pm, mounting yard, Cannon Park
Thursday 27 August – Sports lunch and Calcutta, Cannon Park
Friday 28 August 2026 – Ladies Day, Cannon Park
Saturday 29 August 2026 – Cairns Cup Day, Cannon Park.
