All you knead is clay and patience

The event, held the day before Mother’s Day, is expected to feature a wide range of handmade ceramics, with strong participation from the club’s growing membership.

President Lone White said visitors could expect a diverse display of work from local potters.

“We have got an increase in membership. We’ve got more than 200 members.

“It’s going to be very diverse and there might be about 30 or 35 stores there,” she said.

The event has evolved over time, including initiatives during COVID that helped grow interest in pottery.

“A lot of people who normally wanted to play with clay but couldn't do it because they're too busy, then got hooked on clay.”

The club has also worked to improve accessibility, including facilities that allow wheelchair users to attend regular sessions. Ms White said opening the club to the public was important for both members and the organisation.

“For all the hobby partners to have a place where they can sell their work ... we only take a small commission, but that also helps us survive in the club,” she said.

Visitors can also take part in hands-on activities, including clay play for children and guided sessions on pottery wheels.

The fair from 8am to 2pm is at 28A Grove St, Cairns North, with free entry and a raffle on the day.
