All revved up for children
ORGANISERS of the annual Cairns Swap Meet, Car, Bike and Truck Show are gearing up for the event to be one of the biggest in the show’s 27-year history, with all proceeds going to local children’s charities.
Originating at Walkamin, on the Tablelands back in 1997, it is now organised by the NQ Performance Ford Club, the Top of the State Hot Rod and Custom Car Club, the All American Car Club and the Fat Bastards Car Club.
Cairns Meet president James Fullerton said with some great local sponsorship from businesses and many more, all proceeds from the event could then be donated to local children’s charities.
“Over $230,000 has been donated to local charities such as Hear and Say Centre, the Pyjama Foundation, Harold’s House, the ARC Respite House, the Leukaemia Foundation, the FNQ Cerebral Palsy Support Group, the QCWA Rural Crisis Fund, the Starlight Foundation, the PCYC, The Indie Rose Foundation, Edward Koch Foundation, Moyamoya Australia, Stay in the Fight and Raffle for Resources,” he said.
“The event provides enthusiasts with an opportunity to present their vehicles to the wider community while supporting local charities that assist local children”.
Apart from drink and food stalls, 60 swap sites, 230 motor vehicles, 120 motorbikes, this year’s event will again feature live music from Terry and the Terrifix and a young band from TAS.
Popular local entertainer Terry Doyle will come out of retirement for this great charity raiser.
The show is on Sunday 9 August from 6am to 1pm at the southern end of Cairns Showgrounds. Participants can enter from Scott St.
