Actor joins fundraise campaign
NEPALESE film star Rajesh Hamal (below) has arrived in Cairns for the first time to support fundraising for victims of the devastating floods in Nepal.

The visit and fundraising event on 7 September were organised by 8848 Momo House, with support from GOPIO Cairns, Damie Tours and members of Cairns’ multicultural community.
Hom Pyashi, founder of 8848 Momo House, and Subash Chetry, president of GOPIO Cairns, have helped bring Hamal to Cairns and coordinate the fundraising drive.
Organisers said the effort had brought together local businesses, community organisations and residents to support people affected by the floods.
Mr Hamal was welcomed at Cairns Airport by organisers, business representatives and community leaders.
During his time in Cairns, he will also attend another fundraiser organised by the local Nepalese community to raise awareness and funds for affected families.
Hamal is widely regarded as one of Nepal’s most celebrated and influential actors.
He is using his public profile to encourage support for flood victims.
