Abi will be ‘crazy, obsessively, needy’ this weekend
CAIRNS’ own Abi Muir is set for one of her biggest weekends yet, performing twice across the city as she launches her new single C.O.N (Crazy Obsessively Needy).

The 21-year-old singer-songwriter will open for Winston Surfshirt at The Jack on Friday night before taking to the main stage at Be Social Fest on Saturday afternoon.
“Oh, my goodness, I cannot wait,” Ms Muir said. “I’ve been looking forward to these gigs for so long, it feels amazing and surreal. Seeing myself in the lineup was crazy.”
Her new single C.O.N., officially out 24 October, explores the emotional vulnerability of being an empath in love. “In all my previous relationships, I’ve always been very anxiously attached and needy,” she said.
“An ex once told me I was obsessive and crazy. Instead of crying about it, I went home and wrote a song. It’s one of my favourites I’ve ever written.”
Ms Muir will debut both an acoustic version of the track with her partner, Jayden David, and a full-band version featuring drummer Dave D’Amore.
“This is the first festival where I’m performing all my own new original songs,” she said.
“It’s a big step, but I’m so excited to maybe find new listeners in that crowd.”
Having already shared stages with artists like Dami Im and Slowly Slowly, Ms Muir says those experiences have helped build her confidence.
“I used to have terrible stage fright, but performing with those artists made me realise I belong up there too.”
Growing up in Cairns, Ms Muir credits the city’s creative community for shaping her artistry.
“I love Cairns. I’ve had so many incredible opportunities here and they keep coming,” she said.
“The Tanks is probably my favourite venue, it feels like magic.”
Despite tall poppy syndrome, setbacks and bullying early in her career, her passion for music remains unwavering.
“People didn’t like seeing me doing something different, but they couldn’t take away the one thing I’ve always loved.”
Abi Muir’s new single, C.O.N. (Crazy Obsessively Needy), will be available on all streaming platforms from 24 October.
