Released on 6 March, the song offers light-hearted dating advice while celebrating relationships that are down-to-earth, steady and loyal.

“We all know someone who’s always chasing something flashy,” Ms Crosby told Cairns Local News.

“But sometimes what you really need is someone steady, someone grounded. Don’t think fancy, normal is good, country is good.”

Ms Crosby said the track was written as “a bit of fun”, inspired by giving a friend some advice.

“Basically, me giving some dating advice on maybe, maybe you should date a cowboy instead of a shiny city boy.”

Originally from Chillagoe, west of Cairns, Ms Crosby said growing up in Far North Queensland strongly shaped the stories she tells through music.

“My dad’s family are all from Cape York, so the pointy end of Queensland is kind of where we feel most at home,” she said.

“Growing up that far Bush, you feel really connected to the land.”

That regional connection has influenced much of her songwriting, including her debut album North of the Range, which drew on local history and real-life characters.

Victoria said artists including Slim Dusty, Dolly Parton, Tania Kernaghan and Graeme Connors helped shape her storytelling approach.

The new single was produced with Jedd Demlow Productions, and forms part of an upcoming album exploring a blend of traditional bush ballads with country rock and country pop.

The single is available for streaming and download.
