A month to make a move
FAR North Queenslanders are being encouraged to get active throughout September while raising money for local conservation through the Cairns and Far North Environment Centre’s ‘Move for Our Environment’ fundraiser.
The month-long fundraiser invites people of all fitness levels to choose an activity, set themselves a goal and seek donations for CAFNEC.
Participants can walk, ride, run, swim, paddle or skate, and can take part individually or as part of a team with friends, family or work colleagues. Goals can also be adjusted during the fundraiser.
To participate, people create a fundraising profile and set an activity goal, such as walking 30km in September. Participants can then share photographs and their fundraising profile with friends and family while completing their chosen activity.
Funds raised through Move for Our Environment will support CAFNEC’s conservation work, including advocacy, community campaigns and grassroots organising.
According to CAFNEC, the funds also help the organisation deliver training, events, webinars, communications and resources to support local individuals and groups in taking action.
Participants can also organise a fundraising activity day with friends and family, while local sponsors are providing prizes for the campaign.
CAFNEC fundraising and communications coordinator Derryn Knuckey said people could continue to make changes after registering.
“Move for Our Environment is a lot of fun, especially when you form a team with friends.
“Sign up only takes 2 minutes, and you can make changes to your profile or add team members after signing up.”
Move for Our Environment runs from 1-30 September, with participants able to sign up before or during the campaign to raise funds for CAFNEC’s local conservation activities.
