150 year logo contest

THE ‘Douglas 150 logo comp’ has been launched, coinciding with a general call for ideas from locals, leading up to the Douglas Shire 150 year anniversary.

The community is being invited to help shape the 150 celebrations, with plans underway for a year-long program of events and activities in 2027, paying tribute to the region’s formation in 1877.

As part of the preparations, council is launching a Douglas 150 logo competition and encouraging residents, community groups, schools, businesses and creative professionals to submit designs that could become the official symbol of the celebrations. Competition details, entry requirements and deadlines will be available on council’s website.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the anniversary was an opportunity for the entire community to recognise the people, places and stories that have shaped Douglas over the past 150 years.

“1877 was a momentous year for our region and marks the beginning of a significant chapter in Douglas’ history,” she said.

“The 150th anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on our shared history, celebrate our unique communities, recognise the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this region and acknowledge the many people whose contributions have helped shape Douglas into what it is today.

“We’re inviting everyone to get involved in the logo competition. Whether you’re a professional designer, a student, an artist or someone who simply has a great idea, we’d love to see your vision for Douglas 150 ...”
