The event, which sold out in under two weeks, covers over 150km of the Cassowary Coast’s beautiful yet brutal terrain.

The world-class endurance race features a combination of trail running, mountain biking, rope challenges, rafting, kayaking and mystery tasks.

Based out of Mission Beach, the event will stretch from the Tully River at Cardstone to Mena Creek and out to Dunk Island, showcasing the extreme diversity of the region.

Tourism portfolio holder, Councillor Renee McLeod, said the event presents a huge opportunity to show off our backyard and will be a significant boost for the local economy.

“Held for the first time in 2019 and unfortunately being postponed in 2020 and 2021 (due to COVID-19), Council is again excited to host the event in 2022 and welcome back the Red Bull Defiance Team, competitors and their support crews and families to our region,” Cr McLeod said.

“Recently, Council met with the Red Bull Defiance Team and Outer Limits Adventure Fitness event organisers to discuss course details, event logistics and on the ground support.

“It was exciting to hear of the work the event team has been doing locally to prepare for Red Bull Defiance 2022.

“A strong focus has been to engage with local businesses and community groups and leverage their support to deliver a premium yet local experience for competitors.”

Sam Stedman, Director of Outer Limits Adventure Fitness, said it has been great connecting and working with the local community to finalise preparations for the event.

“Already, we have partnered with local catering business Tuskers Tuckerbox and Catering and Mission Beach Surf Life Savers for their services and facilities to create a Hub for the athletes,“ Mr Stedman said.

“Everyone has been great to work with, and we are still reaching out to other community groups to assist with volunteering.

“Our Team is so excited to bring this event again to the Cassowary Coast region and showcase not only the amazing natural assets that the community is home to but also the great community members we have come to know.”
