The Great Pyramid Race 2022

UP TO 6,000 people including race competitors, spectators, their families and friends, and the general public are expected to turn out to enjoy the endurance race gaining growing attention around the country – the Great Pyramid Race at Walsh’s Pyramid early next month.

The 12-kilometre race will be held in conjunction with a major market day in Gordonvale.

The unique event is known as a competitive, gruelling race that many keen runners from the Cairns region, other parts of Queensland and interstate, have on their bucket list.

“A very tough race, like no other that they compete in,” organiser Renee Edwards said.

With two weeks to go, registration for the Great Pyramid Race is about 60 per cent sold. Entries close earlier this year – at the end of July.

“We’ve got people coming from all over Australia – WA, South Australia, Victoria.

“Competitors say it’s such a community event and they have encouragement all the way along the track until the finish line”.

In its 62nd year, six events will be staged, plus four ‘dash for cash’ races. The main race up Walsh’s Pyramid starts at 8am.

Pop up stalls, entertainment and music, cultural and craft events, children’s activities, rides and amusements as a community event for Gordonvale and surrounding areas will also be held on the day, an event that has grown every year since its inception in 1959.

There will also be a small selection of stalls associated with health and fitness, healthy food options, and a few activities to keep kids and families entertained while awaiting the return of family and friends competing in events.
