FREE local history lectures
CAIRNS HISTORICAL Society will present two local history lectures on Saturday April 23, 2022.
Local historian and author, Pauline O’Keeffe will talk about some of the names listed on the Gordonvale War Memorial.
Pauline was co-author of “Northern Anzacs: How the First World War Shaped Far North Queensland”. The book recounts the stories of the men and women from FNQ who served in WWI. It also looks at how the war impacted families and the local communities they came from.
Local identity, Meg Trimble will present a paper on her grandfather, G. H. Griffiths, Cairns businessman and community benefactor – a man before his time.
“Northern Anzacs” by Pauline O’Keefe and Gordon Grimwade is available from the Cairns Museum shop for $35 or can be purchased online at the Cairns Museum website.
The lectures will be held at the Cairns Museum, Corner of Lake and Shields Streets, Cairns from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.
