"Gazza's Goss: Nailing It At The SheShed!"

I’VE been intending to pay a visit to the Mossman Men’s Shed for a while now and at some point, I certainly will.

This week, however, I did attend the same venue, but on this occasion, it was to inspect the practical skills of our talented local ladies.

The newly formed ‘SheShed’ is up and running with some enthusiastic new members and a selection of power tools that would make any contestants of the ‘The Block’ extremely jealous.

Gone are the days of Blue Jobs and Pink Jobs in the home, as we are now living in a wonderful world where men can wear aprons and women can wear work boots. Our global tribe of women are now more empowered than ever to put down the broom and pick up a drill and hammer.

Over the next few weeks, a number of fun but useful projects will be addressed, including the use of power tools such as drills, sanders and saws. The girls will embark on timber preparation and painting, lawn mower maintenance, basic plumbing, even curtain and track selection for their homes.

Mosaic Art will be one of the topics on the work bench, including the design and construction of a Coffee Table and initially the creation of the SheShed Sign itself.

Upcycling will be another important aspect of the SheShed member’s work. By the term Upcycling, they don’t mean the use of an exercise bike, but such projects as striping, preparing and painting of upholstery for furniture, Rag Rug making, plus Picture Framing and restoration Tye Dye.

Basically, the SheShed is designed to provide a haven for ALL women to come together and share skills, make new friends, get creative and ultimately master the maintenance of their own home.

Skilled facilitators Deb and Doreen will be overseeing the action every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am until 1pm, so why not get in touch on 4098 2836 or visit in person to 20 Mill Steet, Mossman.

I’m off to sharpen my drills, so for now it’s Gazza signing out.
