Deputy mayor leads Douglas shire mayoral bid

DOUGLAS Shire deputy mayor Lisa Scomazzon is likely to be the new mayor of the council.

She has garnered 54.42 per cent of the vote (2363 of 4477 votes counted) after 47.89 per cent were counted as of 11am today. There are 9348 enrolled voters.

Businessman David Haratsis is second (38.71 per cent, 1681 votes) and businessman Stacy Wilkinson third (6.86 per cent, 298).

Councillors Roy Zammataro (14.77 per cent, 1606 votes) and Abigail Noli (12.79 per cent, 1390) are likely to return to the shire council chambers. Four councillors are required.

Other strong possibilities are Bill Allison (10.41 per cent, 1132), Damian Meadows (10.11 per cent, 1099) and Jeremy Blockey (9.56 per cent, 1039).

Others are Cr Peter McKeown (9.16 per cent, 996), Pia McKeown (7.86 per cent, 855), Terry Melchert (6.82 per cent, 742), Michael Rees (6.9 per cent, 750), Peter Wood (3.59 per cent, 390) and Sara Mulcahy (3.23 per cent, 351).
