THE installation of the shade sail at the Mission Beach Aquatic Centre has been completed and the billabong and splash pool is once again open and ready to use just in time for summer.

Division Three representative for the Mission Beach area, Councillor Trudy Tschui said the project is a milestone for the whole community and finalises all work planned for the facility.

“The shade sail was the final piece to be completed for the overall facility.

“Positioned over the billabong and splash pool, the new shade sail will provide a much-needed barrier from the harsh Far North Queensland sun.

“The works began in November, however due to issues including complexity in the site and supply issues due to COVID, there were some significant delays.

“I am proud to say that today the project is now complete and can be enjoyed fully by the community,” said Councillor Tschui.

“Thank you to all residents for your patience as we worked to provide the community a facility that is sun-safe and can be enjoyed by everyone, across all seasons.”

The shade sail was proudly funded by the Queensland Government through the Works for Queensland program.
