Transport and Main Roads North Queensland Acting Regional Director Ross Hodgman said people could provide feedback that would be included as part of the $2.1 million planning study to investigate long-term solutions.

“We ask locals and visitors things like how often they use the bridge and what they would like to see in a long-term solution,” Mr Hodgman said.

“The bridge opened to traffic in 1963, and heavy vehicles are now much heavier than back then.

“We have carried out extensive investigations and repairs, and the bridge is safe for vehicles under 50.5 tonnes, but we need to start preparing for the future.

“The planning study will assess and develop long-term solutions for either replacing or rehabilitating the existing bridge.”

Feedback can be provided via the project website at:  https://bit.ly/3wgeeSD by clicking on the ‘Have your say’ link.

Alternatively, contact TMR on 4045 7144 or email cairns.office@tmr.qld.gov.au.

Public consultation closes on May 31, with the planning study expected to be complete later this year.
