Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service executive director of medical services, Dr Jeremy Wellwood, has been appointed CE of the CHHHS, taking over the reins from Tina Chinery.

Dr Wellwood, who has more than 25 years of clinical experience, has also worked as a Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist and led the development of tertiary cancer services on the Gold Coast.

CHHHS Board Chairman Clive Skarott said the Health Service was delighted to welcome Dr Wellwood to Far North Queensland.

“Dr Wellwood has a strong interest and experience in leading workforce culture change and is committed to staff and clinician engagement,” he said.

“He is also an advocate for research, which links well with our vision to become Cairns University Hospital.

“He will play a key role in leading the delivery of a research strategy focused on improving the community’s health outcomes.”

Dr Wellwood will start work at CHHHS on Monday, 4 July. He has been appointed for six months while the Board undertakes a recruitment process.

Mr Skarott acknowledged the significant contribution Ms Chinery had made to the Health Service during the past six years, particularly during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic.

“Tina is leaving our Health Service well positioned for the future, and we wish her well for her return to family and a new role in Western Australia,” he said.
