All Queensland state and nonstate schools offering senior visual art can submit artworks by up to four students.

Last year, the Cairns and Tablelands regions were very well represented with students from 14 schools exhibiting an impressive range of sculptures, installations, paintings, photographs, videos, prints, and drawings.

Tom Cuzzubbo from St Augustine’s College and Varni Nona from Cairns State High School received Excellence Awards.

Anais Neisler from St Monica’s College was awarded the Regional Encourage prize. A total of 9 students received Commendations.

There were 40 entrants featured in the online gallery. Cuzzubbo’s, The Llama Project, featured traditional ceramic sculptures with Facebook and Instagram accounts taking the subject out of the gallery into other real and virtual worlds.

Nona’s work titled, The Australian Constitution, comprised a series of fine art drawings and letter stamps documenting Indigenous people’s experience of the national parliament and legal system.

Anais Neisler’s multi-media installation, The Pursuit of Happiness, featured two hyper-realistic portraits and an animation.

Nominations for the CGE Awards close on August 31, 2022.
