Member for Cairns Michael Healy said the $3.5 million project was funded with the $400 million Queensland Government’s COVID-19 stimulus package.

“This project was made possible because of the Palaszczuk Government’s overall record $27.5 billion four-year roads and transport plan,” Mr Healy said.

“A plan creating 24,000 jobs and driving Queensland’s economic recovery from COVID-19.

“Driving jobs and industry alongside this is the $164 million Smithfield Bypass, the $225 million Cairns Southern Access Corridor, and the $300 million Cairns Western Arterial Road Duplication.

“These works demonstrate the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to not only helping regional motorists get where they’re going quicker but making their trip as safe as possible too.

“These intersection works involved replacing the culvert under the road and resurfacing over the culvert crossing.

“Freight traffic is also better accommodated with improved safety on this essential passage to Cairns’ central business district.

“It’s all working towards safer roads for Far North Queensland.

“I would like to thank the community and motorists for their ongoing patience while this important project was carried out.”

The funding boost was announced as part of the Palaszczuk Government’s Economic Recovery Strategy: Unite and Recover for Queensland Jobs, to help the state recover from COVID-19 with a focus on backing local jobs.
