THE RONDO THEATRE announces its latest play – Cherish

CAIRNS’ home of quality stage productions, The Rondo Theatre proudly announces its next play, ‘Cherish’ by award-winning playwright Ken Duncum, opening on Friday, April 29.

(L/R )- Maeve, Tom, Jess and William

‘Cherish’ is an honest and compelling story of two queer couples and the family they share, provoking the audience to consider the complexities of surrogate parenthood.

Jess and Maeve each have a daughter fathered by Tom, whose long-term partner is William.

The deal is that Jess will have another child who Tom and William will raise…but what happens when good intentions run up against the complex realities of human need?

Director Lynn Cropp’s minimalistic approach to staging allows the audience to focus on the vulnerable, delicate and increasing futile relationships between the characters as they struggle to hold on to what is ‘theirs’.

Winning Best New New Zealand Play in 2003, Ken Duncum’s ‘Cherish’ is, above all, an intriguing ensemble piece that shows how the tough choices in life can strip bare the façade of who we appear to be when faced with losing what we can’t live without.

The Rondo is known for its diverse annual season of plays sourced from Australian and international playwrights.

The Rondo’s intimate stage creates the ideal setting for this brilliant piece of theatre.

A strong cast of local actors, coupled with the Rondo’s state of the art lighting and sound and a stunning set, will create a memorable experience for Cairns’ theatre lovers.
