Dancenorth CAIRNS WORKSHOP THIS SAT JULY 23
EACH year, Townsville-based Dancenorth embarks on a regional workshop tour, traveling to regional and remote areas in North and Far North Queensland, to deliver dance workshops to schools and community groups.
In 2021, that spanned 4,200km and 24 towns in North and Far North Queensland. Sixty-seven workshops were facilitated for 1650 participants, from 39 school and community groups.
Each year we tour, our love for regional Queensland grows. This year we are thrilled to be extending our offer and bringing the worldclass Dancenorth Ensemble on the road with us. This year’s tour will include an outdoor performance, so that all members of the community can come together to experience and celebrate dance.
School students and community groups across Cairns and the Tablelands have been participating in dance and rhythm workshops this week with the Dancenorth Ensemble. These are inspired by the company’s performance NOISE – a 15-minute explosion of rhythm, movement, colour and energy. At the end of each week of local workshops, Dancenorth invites all participants – their families, friends and neighbours – to come along and share in a special experience of NOISE! Get ready to move your body and make some noise!
NOISE is a gathering, a united force of percussive energy and powerful dance designed to pull audience members into the present moment, to wholly captivate attention and energy. Join us as we celebrate community and togetherness anchored by our primal connection to rhythm.
School and community workshop participants are invited to be part of this special performance – and join in the drumming to support the dancers during the show.
This Saturday July 23 from 11:00am: Fogarty Park, The Esplanade Parklands, Cairns.
Arrive at 11:00am for a bit of a rehearsal before the performance at 12:00pm. Bring your homemade instrument – drum or shaker – pots, pans, empty pot plants – get creative!
