The NAIDOC Week theme this year Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! was a call for action and a time for our community to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
The week began with the Mamu Traditional Owners and Mamu Tropical Skywalk hosting the opening ceremony for the Innisfail NAIDOC Week.
The day included a special welcome to country, dancers, a smoking ceremony, children’s rock painting, weaving and storytelling for traditional artefacts.
There was also a wonderful turnout of support at Innisfail’s NAIDOC Week March, with many attending Warrina Lakes following the march for a morning of traditional Aboriginal and Torre Strait Islander dancers and singers, music, arts and crafts.
The Tully NAIDOC Week street procession was also well attended and celebrated by the community.
Cassowary Coast Regional Council proudly supports local NAIDOC Week events.
