You may or may not be surprised to learn that one of largest and most played sports in Australia is Netball and the Douglas Netball Association is making great efforts to ensure it is well supported in the area.

Netball is an extremely skillful and enjoyable sport and for those that may still have a lingering New Year’s Resolution, it’s a great way to get fit.

The Douglas Netball Association is inviting juniors to ‘Come and Try’ t h e game. New and existing players can get involved every Tuesday with a 10 week ‘Net Set Go’ program for 8 to 11 year-olds between 4.30 and 5.30pm. This program covers basic skills but most importantly it is fun.

For those a little older, the Douglas Netball Association then holds skill sessions followed by games for the 12 years to 15 years from 5.30 to 6.30pm

This year there are a number of pathways for Juniors to further their skill through training with high profile presenters and special programs. All players will have the opportunity to participate.

For the Seniors Division everything starts from 6.30pm. If you are simply looking for a team to join, the Association recommended that you just come along and they’ll find you the ideal group to play with.

If you are keen, there has never been a better time to start, as the season has just begun and will culminate with the Finals in August.

Sounds good??.... well, it actually gets better, as there is also a canteen running to help with everyone’s busy lifestyle and to keep you well nourished.

For those wanting to take it a step further, Douglas Netball is looking for volunteers and are happy to teach you new skills. They offer coaching and umpiring programs with training available for support staff within the sport. Coaches and umpires are most valued and payment is available for qualified officials.

For more information pop along to the Port Douglas Sporting Complex on Tuesdays from 4.30pm or visit Douglas Netball Association on Facebook.

I’m off to practice my Double Dodge, so for now it’s Gazza signing out.
