Fire In Our Landscape

Last week, the Murray Upper Rural Fire Brigade officially unveiled a mural painted by local artist, Lavinia Letheby and the Murray Upper community, which creates a special identity for the locally run rural fire station.

Councillor Barry Barnes said the project has been a great example of the community working together to create a piece of art that creates ownership and builds a strong identity for the fire station.

“The mural, titled ‘Fire in our Landscape’, reflects the local scenery and wildlife within the Murray Upper region and makes this facility truly recognisable to visitors passing by.

“The station which is run by volunteers, was constructed in late 2021 and is a highly valued community service.

“It was great to see this project come to life and to see the whole community working together to collaborate on the final touches to the station.

“The Murray Upper Rural Fire Brigade was successful in receiving a grant through the Community Assistance Scheme in which $3,000 was contributed to assist the group with the project,” said Councillor Barnes.

The Community Assistance Scheme provides financial assistance to community organisations and individuals who make a positive contribution to the development of the Cassowary Coast region’s environmental, social and cultural values as well as its sporting, recreational and lifestyle values.
