The community has, once again, dug deep and displayed the heart of the Cassowary Coast with a bumper Community Christmas Appeal making a difference to the lives of many in our community this holiday season.

Cassowary Coast Mayor Mark Nolan said every year he was humbled by the generosity shown by community members and organisations who made donations to support local families and individuals in need across the region.

“This year has been particularly hard for many and to reach a total of $7312.78 is astonishing.

“The Community Christmas Appeal is a chance to give to where it’s needed most and to make the festive season just a little better for those in need.”

Councillor Nolan said he would like to provide his heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated, from purchasing a $2 star to a large donation, it all adds up and every cent raised goes straight back into the community to spread Christmas joy.

Melissa Tanti, Family Counsellor, Community Support Centre Innisfail said the funds will be distributed to vulnerable families that we work with who are experiencing challenges in the Cassowary Coast Region.

“The funds will be provided as food vouchers to alleviate hardship during the Christmas period.”

Participating charities to help distribute food, hampers and supplies to the needy this year include the Salvation Army Innisfail; Empower Church Innisfail; Cassowary Coast Uniting Church; Community Support Centre Innisfail; Tully Support Centre; Wet Tropics Housing and Innisfail Youth & Family Care.

Cassowary Coast Regional Council would like to acknowledge all individuals and business who made kind donations including 4KZ Radio, Life Ur Way, Coxen Chemicals, Innisfail Lioness Club, Mission Beach Lions Club, Woolworths Innisfail, local Commonwealth Bank branches, Paronella Park and Innisfail Tyre and Brake.
