Ki Aikido Classes

3:00pm 119 Wattle Street, Yorkeys Knob

Ki Aikido is a highly refined martial art form developed from a number of Japanese martial arts.

It teaches those who practice the art, self-awareness, self-control and calmness even in stressful situations. One of its core principles is that of non-dissension, which strives for the elimination of negative or aggressive behaviour.

Ki Aikido training is for both the "Mind and Body."  Ki meditation, Ki breathing and kiatsu techniques are taught to help reduce stress, increase calmness and improve one’s general health and wellbeing. The more physical side of Ki Aikido training, which is intimately linked to the mental training, has numerous benefits.

Classes are held Wednesday 6:30pm - 8:00pm, and Saturday 3:00pm - 5:00pm every week.

For further information, see their websiteFacebook or call on Alfio 0408 184 429.

ADFAS - Sunlight & Sensuality - Sylivia Sagona

7:30pm The Sheridan Room . Cairns Sheridan Hotel, Cairns

Sylvia Sagona uses her extensive study of French, Comparative Art & literature & Sociology to show techniques used by Pierre-Auguste Renoir to accurately convey the joy of life in his painting "Luncheon of The Boating Party". Renoir's future wife, Aline Charigot, can be seen playing with a small dog whose hair is almost touchable in the left foreground.

Sylvia discusses this painting in context & explores its legacy, especially how this carefree, sensual image of inter-class mingling deliberately erases the recent trauma of the Commune of 1871 and heralds the beginning of the Belle Epoque.
